Shared Ownership Properties for You

If you have been thinking about Shared Ownership Schemes and New Build HomeBuy and wondering what it all means and how it affects you, then perhaps this will help.We have been talking about shared ownership and how to go about getting onto the property ladder for some time but I think that most of you are wondering whether you can benefit from this Government run scheme and whether it really is going to be as good as it sounds. For those of you who have missed our take on what has been happening with shared ownership mortgages, then this is a Government Housing Scheme to help people get a foothold on the property ladder. Originally in order to get into this scheme you needed to tick several of the council’s boxes in i.e.: a key worker, but in order to get the property market back on track the Government have opened up shared ownership to everyone, including first time buyers earning less than £60K a year (which is many of us).Having run a poll (please note that it was not scientifically carried out) on shared ownership and people’s thoughts on shared ownership, it would seem that most believe that these mystical properties exist in places that are either undesirable or that the properties are undesirable themselves. This, in fact, is not the case.If you were in any doubt over shared ownership, then consider this. Brighton is a beautiful city that has always an extremely popular and sought-after place to live. By the sea, great night life, culture, charm and did I mention the sea? But did you consider that shared ownership schemes were available in Brighton – and in the nice areas? Well there are!The Southern Housing Group have started shouting about New Build HomeBuy schemes available in Brighton and Hove and the pictures and locations are proof that the Government understand what we want from our homes as well as making it affordable. It seems that, yes, you can have it all.The process is simple. Find a shared ownership property in your area and then find a mortgage – just as you would. If you still need convincing then take a look at The Southern Housing Group here and then contact Click n Go to arrange your mortgage or if you need any further advice on how to get onto the property ladder.

England has the Smallest New Homes in Europe

New Homes in England are home almost the smallest the Europe a study has revealed.

Homes in England on average measure 82.7 square metres per dwelling space, with Germany’s measurements over 20 square metres bigger.

In recent years, the streets of Barking in East London have been transformed by giant multi coloured housing blocks, giving homes to people and rejuvenating the skyline of this drab and dreary part of the capital.

Many people who live in the new blocks of Barking find that the flats provide them with everything that they need, but should they be a family or someone with furniture from a previous home, then they will be hard pressed for space and find that they all start living on top of each other.

According to a report in 2004, the floor area per dwelling is the smallest in Italy at 81.5 square metres with England only 1.7 square metres bigger. Germany and France allow for 20 more square metres in floor area per dwelling, making everyday living a lot more bearable, especially when you are co-habiting.

The recent study into the size of homes in England has remarked on the impact that living in a small space has on people, especially children who need space to develop and grow. The study points out that although we could be solving a problem short term now, are we not just creating homes that could be considered the slums of tomorrow? This has been echoed by those who see the inner cities as a place for immigrants, the poor and childless couples.

Small spaces for living are up for discussion. If you don’t need a large space, then this type of micro living can save you money and get you into the centre of town and closer to where you work. It is all down to what you need and what you want from your living space.

If you want to discuss your options and what your money can get you then talk to Click n Go Mortgages about your mortgage options.

Rent a Converted Cupboard for £135 a week

A store cupboard that was converted into a flat can be rented out for £135 a week. The store cupboard flat is located on the third floor of a block in swanky Notting Hill and measures a mere 62 square foot but somehow is comprised of a bed, shower room, wardrobe and kitchen. The flat is described as ‘tiny but trendy’ and takes ‘bijou’ (every estate agents favourite term) to the extremes. The store cupboard was converted into a flat over 20 years ago by a business man who used the ‘flat’ when he was in London on business and would only be suitable for someone who was often out.The bed is built on top of the shower and kitchen cubicles and so the bed has to be accessed by a ladder, which has proved dangerous for many of the tenants. In fact one tenant actually broke their arm when they fell from the ladder. The flat highlights the need for housing and the extremes that people go to, to get on to the property ladder or find a property in their ideal location. If the idea of living in a cupboard is not up your street, then perhaps you should look at the opportunities that are available to you through shared ownership schemes. If you would like to know where to start, then contact Click n Go Mortgages and we can talk you through everything that you need to know.

Micro Living - 'Cupboard Love'

A trend that we witnessed around 5 years ago, seems to be making a bit of a come back.

With the cost of houses still that little bit out of reach for many first time buyers, attention has been turned to smaller properties and ways to maximise living space within them.

Recently a couple sold their home in London for £200K, despite the flat actually being a converted cupboard.  Due to the great job done on the conversion and the sought after post code, the couple have now managed to up-size to their first 1-bed.

If you are thinking about getting your foot on the property ladder, but know that a 5 bed mansion is a little out of your reach then why not consider the possibilities of optimising a smaller space for all of your living needs.

The video below demonstrates just how this can be done.  A little bit of imagination goes a long way…

The UKs Smallest Council House

The UK’s smallest council house has just got a new tenant. The tiny house in Rayleigh, Essex is now home to Fay Laslin who is equally tiny herself at only 5ft.  This means that the 20ft space (in diameter) is perfect for her, although anyone 6ft or over could bhave some trouble.Part of the deal that comes with the £75 a week rent is that the occupant will act a tour guide and show people around the Dutch house once a week. The house is very unique and at 300 years old is probably the oldest council house in the UK as well as the smallest.

If you are looking in to buying your council house or shared equity mortgages, then contact Click n Go Mortgages and we can talk you through everything that you need to know about getting onto the property ladder.
